How different is a green tea from masala chai?

Published on

Black tea and green tea come from the same plant but are differentiated based on oxidation. Black tea leaves are oxidized, whereas the green teas leaves are not. This simple process leads to a huge difference in benefits and flavour of both tea variants which has created separate consumer markets for them. If you are new to the tea world and would like to know the difference between the two, here is a blog for you. Read on!

Tea leaf type

The black tea leaves are rolled out and left to dry with exposure to the air. This process turns the colour of the leaves dark brown and intensifies the flavour. However, the green tea leaves are not oxidized and directly processed, thus retaining their original green colour.

Additional elements

The green and black teas do not have the same preparation. To make a cup of green tea, you can brew the tea leaves in water and sip the goodness. Feel free to add honey and lemon to enhance the flavour. As for the black tea, take Masala Chai by Butterfly Ayurveda and brew it in water. It becomes the best version of itself with milk and sugar added to it.

While lemon and honey can be added to black tea, the green tea cannot be prepared with milk with it.
