Challenges women face when starting a business

Published on by Butterfly Ayurveda

Starting a business is never easy. It takes determination, enthusiasm, and most importantly, the will to strive and succeed. However, when we talk about women-owned businesses, females tend to face several challenges which might not be too stressful for their male counterparts. Read on to discover some of the challenges female entrepreneurs face when starting a business.

Getting their presence noticed

Whether attending a conference or presenting your business ideas, female entrepreneurs find it difficult to get themselves noticed as easily as their male business counterparts. From doubting their abilities to run a business to ignoring their pitch, female founders have never had it easy in a male dominant society.

Funding

While not all businesses need external funding to kick off from the ground, some do, and it is never an easy process. However, for women founders, the process of securing funding is often more excruciating. Since gender bias and inequality still highly prevails in several business sectors, women might have to work harder and face more rejections.

Work-life balance

When a man starts a business, he is supposed to leave everything behind and focus only on this new venture. However, the same is not the case with female entrepreneurs. A woman entrepreneur is supposed to balance her family’s needs with her career. She must always prioritize her family. Such mentality makes it challenging for female businesswomen to become successful business owners.

Fear of failure

Failure is highly possible in any business. However, letting the fear of it drive your business will never lead to success. Every women-owned business must learn from the best female entrepreneurs and strive through the moments of self-doubt.

Effective support system

From her friends and immediate family to her partner, having a strong support system is essential for every successful businesswoman. Apart from family, they need professional advisors and mentors who will prevent them from making the wrong move that might cost them their reputation and business.
